What I Believe
I believe in the power of words because a person who speaks with passon can change anyone's thoughts, mood, and feelings just by speaking powerful words. The power of words comes from your heart and your soul. The power of words is speech that touches your heart and you feel how the person speaking is feeling. I believe in the power of words because words touch me and help me think of things. Words can be loving, touching, powerful, and emotional. I believe in the power of words because they can do things people do not expect.

I believe in CCSG. I believe in CCSG because of all the people who love and support the school. I believe CCSG is wonderful because we do a lot of stuff that involves the community. I believe all the students at CCSg will achieve what they want to do. I believe that because we have supporting teachers and our classmates help us too.

A Scholar's Description of a Time She Felt Lucky
When I won a basketball game against my counsin and I some big boys, I felt lucky. My cousin blocked me a couple of times but I didn't let her crack no egg. I didn't let her make a shot. Every time I checked her, she tracked me down like a cheetah. When I finally got the chance to go to punk fade and made the shot in her face, I felt lucky. The score was 21 to 23. I knew we had to hit a three to get them off our butt. I felt that leather rub against the palm of my hand.

Scholar Rewrites:There Was a Child Went Forth, W. Whitman (1891)
Written in November 2010
There was a child went forth every day;
And the first object she look'd upon, that object she became;
And that object became part of her for the day, or a certain part of the day or for many years, or stretching for many years.
A star became part of this child
And the green trees and small birds making lots of noises
And the people playing with a brown striped ball, cars parked backwards and forwards, people walking fast with black jackets
And the sun shining light on her
Loud noises from brothers and sisters and yelling from mom
And having a great laugh with friends and family
All became part of her

There was a child went forth every day;
And the first object she look'd upon, that object she became;
And that object became part of her for the day, or a certain part of the day or for many years, or stretching cycles of years.
The early sunrises became part of this child
And flying birds
And chitzus that lay around
And the barking of Gizmo
And the trees with pink flowers
And the sounds of the rain hitting the window
All became part of her

And that object became part of her for the day, or a certain part of the day or for many years, or stretching cycles of years.
The family that raised her became part of this child
And papusas that smell deliciously of beans and cheese
And the two black and white poodles that are fluffy like pillows
And the birds in the back yard
And the green pond where the ducks swim
And nature
All became part of her.

Before this became part of this child
And leaves, blue mornings, spirits, and green and blue clovers and the song of a hummingbird
And the first-month in 2011 was part her life
And the noisy dogs were a part of this child
And the birds in the green tree were a part too
And the homeless were a part of her too.

The grandfatherly oak trees
Acorns falling
Restaurants serving delicious burgers
Kids going to school
Young adults going to college
And adults going to work
The chiming of the light rail crossing and the braking of the city bus
All became part of her life.

And the first object she look'd upon, that object she became;
And that object became part of her for the day, or a certain part of the day or for many years, or stretching cycles of years
The poor children became part of this child
And trees and clouds and the sun setting
And the chihuahuas, pits and schnouzers
And the noisy end of the park
And the lobsters swimming across to the end of the creek
And the show on the porch
All became part of her
